Pinhel is a Portuguese city belonging to Guarda district, in Beira Alta province, Centro region (Beiras Region) and Beiras and Serra da Estrela sub-region, with approximately 3,500 inhabitants.
Also known as Cidade Falcão, it is the seat of a municipality with an area of ​​484.52 km² and 9 627 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 18 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, to the northeast by Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, to the east by Almeida, to the south by Guarda, and to the west by Celorico da Beira, Trancoso, and Mêda.
The municipality of Pinhel is between 350 and 600 meters high and is bathed by the Côa river, the Massueime river, in addition to the Cabras and Pêga riversides. Pinhel is surrounded by beautiful landscapes: hills, plateaus, hills, and the notable Serra da Marofa.
Pinhel has the Falcão as a symbol, also present as a badge on his coat of arms. The falcon symbolizes the patriotism of the inhabitants who fought for the defense of national independence, at a time when they joined the patriotic movement of Mestre de Avis and when Portugal was under attack from Castile, namely in Beira Alta.
The main economic activity that we find in the municipality of Pinhel is agriculture. Another type of economic activity practiced in the municipality is the extraction of stone, mainly due to the geological characteristics of the region.
Tourism is a Pinhel bet: all the important points of the municipality can be visited and there is an active Tourist Office located in the old Solar dos Antas and Meneses, in the central area of ​​the city and at the entrance of the historic area, where you can get all the type of information and visit the Loja dos Produtos Endógenos, where you can buy a souvenir of Pinhel and typical products of the region.
