Moreira de Rei is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Trancoso, with an area of 34.40 km² and 411 inhabitants (2021 census). Its population density is 11.9 inhabitants/km².

History
The name of the town refers to the period in which it welcomed King D. Sancho II, on his way to exile in Toledo.

It was a town and county seat between the 12th century and 1836. The small municipality was made up of the parishes of the town and Castanheira and had, in 1801, just 364 inhabitants.

Moreira de Rei Necropolis proto-Christian necropolis and largest medieval necropolis in Portugal that shares space with the church, the pillory and the entrance to several private houses. It consists of 700 anthropomorphic graves. After being studied in 2023, part of it was buried again to ensure its conservation.

Around the Church of Santa Marinha, in the old town of Moreira de Rei, in the municipality of Trancoso, there are more than 650 anthropomorphic graves, almost all of them excavated in the granite rock, this is the largest necropolis of anthropomorphic graves in the Iberian Peninsula.
