Sabugal is a Portuguese city belonging to Guarda district, in Beira Alta province, Centro region (Beiras region) and Beiras and Serra da Estrela sub-region, with about 1 943 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with an area of 822.70 km² and 12 544 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 30 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Almeida, to the east by Spain, to the south by Penamacor, to the southwest by Fundão, to the west by Belmonte and to the northwest by Guarda. It is located in Terras de Riba-Côa, as well as Pinhel, Almeida, Mêda and Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo.
The climate, in the municipality of Sabugal, is very rigorous, always touching the extremes, that is, winter is marked by being very cold, with negative temperatures, and in summer the temperature exceeds that of most of the country.
